Methodology

How Engagement Photo Estimates Are Calculated

Our calculator turns a documented city baseline, session choices, and approved factors into a general planning range. It does not predict a specific photographer’s quote or a market average.

City baselines and Plan A sample method

For each city, the approved Plan A method uses three city-local, directly stated 60-minute engagement or couples public offers. We take the median and round it to the nearest $25. The result is a planning estimate only; it is not a photographer quote and not a market average.

CityApproved baselinePublic samples in register
New York City$6003
Los Angeles$4503
Austin$4003
Chicago$6003
Seattle$6003

Seattle remains low confidence because its approved three-sample set has a wide spread. The source register describes the samples and exclusions; individual packages do not represent an entire city.

Factors the calculator applies

  • Session length: 30 minutes ×0.70; 1 hour ×1.00; 2 hours ×1.65; 3 hours ×2.30.
  • Photographer level: emerging ×0.70; established ×1.00; premium ×1.60.
  • Season: December–March ×1.00; April and November ×1.05; May–October ×1.15.
  • Add-ons: additional location $175; rush delivery $125; short highlight video $450.

Formula and displayed range

durationBase = cityBase × durationFactor
tierSubtotal = durationBase × tierFactor
seasonalSubtotal = tierSubtotal × seasonalFactor
rawMedian = seasonalSubtotal + addOnsTotal
rawLow = rawMedian × 0.85
rawHigh = rawMedian × 1.20
displayed values = round(value / 25) × 25

The five-city comparison uses the average of the five current base sessions ($530), then applies the same duration, tier, season, and add-on choices. The comparison percentage is calculated from unrounded medians and rounded to a whole percent.

Source register and review process

We record the source title, URL, city verification, observed public price, package duration, included scope, exclusions, and normalization note for each approved sample. We do not bypass login, paywalls, or anti-bot controls, and we do not treat Google Business Profile price levels as quotes.

Our policy is to check source accessibility quarterly and review city baselines every six months. A changed baseline requires documented source evidence, its effect on examples, a new pricing version, and approval before publication. Dates are updated after review, not automatically because a calendar year changes.

Editorial and visual research boundary

Outfit, pose, and caption guidance is original editorial synthesis for planning decisions. The 2026-07-22 user-provided keyword snapshot is used only to prioritize questions such as what to wear, how much engagement photos cost, and when to plan a session; it is not live search data or a public claim about search volume.

Every production image is a locally stored, licensed, registered asset with descriptive context near the decision it supports. We do not copy competitor text or images. Crawl4AI is not installed in this MVP, is not a runtime dependency, and is not used for automated scraping, rewriting, publishing, or image collection.

Limitations

Photographer packages can vary with travel, permits, demand, deliverables, taxes, availability, location access, and services outside this tool. Use these results to prepare questions, then request a current written quote from the photographer you choose.
